Question

What work is done by a body moving along a circular path? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

Mathematically, work done is given by

W=Fscosθ

Where F is a force, s is a displacement and θ is an angle between force and displacement,

We know that force in a uniform circular motion is perpendicular to the displacement.

Thus, the angle between F and s is 90

Putting θ=90in the equation of work done,

W=Fscos90

=0 (cos90=0)

Hence, work done by a body moving along a circular path is zero.
