Solution

Step 1:

In an organic reaction, a reagent reacts with a reactant molecule to produce an intermediate which is converted into final products.

When the solution of alkaline Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is added dropwise to warm Ethanol (C2H5OH), then a chemical reaction takes place and oxidation of Ethanol gives to Ethanoic acid (CH3COOH).

Step 2: Chemical reaction

The chemical reaction of Ethanol with Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is given as:

C2H5OH+alk.KMnO4CH3COOHEthanolEthanoicacid

Hence, the name of the compound is Ethanoic acid (CH3COOH).
