Question

What would be the path of refracting ray and emergent ray, if a ray of light is incident on a rectangular glass slab?

Open in App
Solution

Refer the diagram for Refracted Ray and Emergent Ray.

The ray of light incident on the glass slab undergoes refraction twice and comes out from the other side of the slab as an emergent ray.

It is to be noted that the emergent ray shows a lateral shift of the ray from the original path and is parallel to incident ray because it went down refraction two times that too at parallel surfaces PQ and SR.
