Part 1: Introduction of genotype
Genotype is the genetic makeup of an organism. It is related to genes and their variant forms (alleles) .
- For example, in pea plants, the gene responsible for height has two alleles.
- T allele represents tall pea plants t allele represents dwarf pea plants
In a population of pea plants, there are three possible genotypes for plant height: TT, Tt and tt.
Part 2: Introduction of phenotype
Phenotypes are physical characters which can be easily observed. Plant's genotype contributes to its phenotype. For example - genotype TT and Tt will produce tall plants and genotype tt will produce dwarf plants.
Part 3: Phenotype of Tt
As the given genotype is Tt , it's a heterozygous condition and in heterozygous condition the dominant trait (T - tall) will express itself. Hence, the phenotype of Tt will be a tall plant.
