what would happen if an onion peel is kept in the hypertonic solution hypotonic solution and isotonic solution

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student, When onion peel is kept into the hypotonic solution water will move into the cell but cell will not burst due to the presence of cell wall. If onion peel is kept into the hypertonic solution cell will loses its water leading to the formation of gap between cell wall and membrane which makes the cell shrink. If, onion peel is keep in isotonic solution amount of water enters into the cell will be equal to amount of water leaves the cell so nothing will happen to the onion peel. Regards
