Question

What would happen if the biosphere contained no decomposers?

Open in App
Solution

Decomposers help in the decomposition of dead and decaying matter in the surrounding and convert them into humus which increases the fertility of the soil. If there where no decomposers, the dead reamins and nutrients will pile up. Nutrient enrichment of soil will not take place. There will be no recycling of nutrients between the biotic and abiotic component of the ecosystem.
