Question

What would happen if the circulatory system stopped working?

Open in App
Solution

Circulatory system:

  1. The circulatory system includes the heart and a network of blood arteries that transport blood, nutrients, and oxygen throughout the body.
  2. The heart, capillaries, arteries, and veins comprise the circulatory system.
  3. While arteries transport blood out from the heart, veins (in most situations) return blood to the heart.
  4. Capillaries aid in the exchange of oxygen and nutrients to cells.
  5. The circulatory system ensures that tissues receive adequate oxygen and nutrition while also eliminating metabolic waste products.

Reasons for stopping of circulatory system:

  1. Usually caused by excessively low blood pressure, peripheral collapses cause collapsed arteries and/or veins, depriving tissues, organs, and limbs of oxygen.
  2. Acute collapse can occur when the principal heart veins collapse due to heart failure, possibly in conjunction with cardiac arrest.

If the circulatory system stopped working then:

  1. If the circulatory system fails or stops functioning it leads to necrosis and eventually death of an individual caused due to the lack of oxygen, nutrients and build of toxins within the body.
