Solution

Elements

An element is a pure substance that cannot be broken down by any physical or chemical means into simpler substances.

Example: Iron (Fe), sulphur (S)

Compounds

Substances are made up of different kinds of atoms, where the atoms are chemically combined

Example: Iron sulfide (FeS)

  • Reactions are classified into exothermic and endothermic reactions
  • The reaction which involves the liberation of heat is called an exothermic reaction whereas a reaction in which heat is absorbed is called an endothermic reaction
  • Iron (Fe) and sulphur(S) are two elements, when they are heated together it forms a new compound called Iron sulfide (FeS) which involves the liberation of heat i.e exothermic reaction

It is given in the chemical reaction

Fe(s)+S(s)FeS(s)
