What would you observe when zinc is added to a solution of iron (II) sulphate? Write the chemical reaction that takes place.

Open in App
Solution

In the reactivity series, zinc is placed above iron. So, zinc is more reactive than iron, and will displace iron from iron sulphate(II) solution.

As a result, colour of iron sulphate(II) solution changes to colourless, from green.

Chemical reaction:
Zn(s)+FeSO4(aq)ZnSO4(aq)+Fe(s)
