The correct option is A The fraction is a proper fraction. Let the fraction be xy.
It is given that x+2y=45 ⇒5(x+2)=4y ⇒5x+10=4y...(a)
Also, xy−2=23 ⇒3x=2(y−2) ⇒3x=2y−4...(b)
Let's solve using the substitution method.
From 1st equation, x=4y−105
Substituting this in the 1st equation we get, 3(4y−105)=2y−4⇒3(4y−10)=5(2y−4)⇒12y−30=10y−20 ⇒2y=10 ⇒y=5
Substituting this in (a) we get, 5x+10=4(5) ⇒5x=20−10=10 ⇒x=2
∴ The required fraction is 25.
It is a proper fraction becuase it's numerator is less than denominator.
