Question

When a bat produces ultrasound , they get reflected from it's prey, but when ultrasound is used for detecting flaws ,they do not get reflected from the metal object. How?

Dear student,

When the ultrasonic waves are allowed to pass through metal to detect flaws,in the parts where there is no flaws the waves are transmitted and detector is used to detect transmitted waves.Even there is small defect it gets reflected back indicating the presence of flaw or defect.
