Question

When a carrier signal, c(t)=cos(200πt) and a message signal, m(t)=cos(2πt) are applied to unknown modulator circuit, the modulated waveform resulted at the output of the circuit is given by,

Solution

The correct option is B an FM wave

s(t)=cos(200πt)cos(5sin2πt)sin(200πt)sin(5sin2πt)

=cos[200πt+5sin(2πt)]

=[cos200πt+10πt0cos(2πt)dt]

=[cos2πfct+10πt0m(t)dt]
The standard form of FM and PM waves can be expressed as,

sFM(t)=Accos[2πfct+2πkft0m(t)dt]

sPM(t)=Accos[2πfct+kpm(t)]

So, the signal s(t) can be an FM wave.
