When a coordination compound CoCl3.6NH3 is mixed with AgNO3, 3 moles of AgCl are precipitated per mole of the compound. This indicates that in the coordination compound, all the three chlorine atoms are in the ionisation sphere and six ammonia molecules are in the coordination sphere.
(i) Structural formula of the complex is [Co(NH3)6]Cl3
The formation of AgCl is as represented
[Co(NH3)6]Cl3+3AgNO3[Co(NH3)6]3++3NO3+3AgCl
(ii) IUPAC name of the complex is hexammine cobalt (III) chloride.
