Solution
When a living plant cell loses water through osmosis, there is contraction of the contents of the cell away from the cell wall. This phenomenon is called plasmolysis. It is the contraction of protoplast of a plant cell as a result of loss of water from the cell. During this process cells lose water in a hypertonic solution.
