Question

When a lycosome bursts; after digesting it's own cell, why don't the enzymes spread further and digest cells around it?

Solution

Size of lysosome is small as compared to cell. So when one lysosome is burst it can only affect the cell it is contained in. Moreover the lysosomal enzymes such proteases, lipases, and nucleases can only work at low pH. The extracellulat ph is generally maintained at 7.2, at this pH these enzymes soon become inactive, and thus do not cause harm to neighboring cells after have eaten self cell.
