Solution

The equivalent weight of oxide = molar mass of oxygencharge on oxygen
=16mol18gmole eq1=8g eq1

One equivalent of the metal reacts with one equivalent of oxygen to form a metal oxide.

Let us consider M to be the equivalent weight of the metal.

Therefore, when M grams of the metal will react with 8g of oxygen the corresponding metal oxide formed will be 8gm more in Mass. This 8 gram is 24% of M.

M =100×824

=1003

=33.3 g
