Solution

Step 1: Introduction

In an organic reaction, a reagent reacts with a reactant molecule to produce an intermediate which is converted into final products.

The reaction of Ethanoic acid (CH3COOH) and Ethanol (C2H5OH) in the presence of concentrated Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) forms the ester that is Ethyl ethanoate (CH3COOC2H5) and Water.

Ethyl ethanoate smells like fruity smell. This reaction is called the Esterification reaction.

Step 2: Reaction

The chemical equation of Ethanoic acid and Ethanol is written as:

CH3COOH+C2H5OHconcH2SO4CH3COOC2H5EthanoicaicdEthanolEthylethanoate

Hence, the general name of this reaction is the Esterification reaction.
