Solution

Dear student,
Lateral displacement occurs when refraction occurs. When light passes from a rear medium to a denser medium, the light changes its path. While entering the denser medium it goes near the normal and while coming out, it goes away from the normal. The amount of deviation in the path of the refracted ray is known as lateral displacement.
