when a stone is thrown vertically upwards it velocity is continuously decreased.Why?

When the stone is thrown up, the velocity of the stone is along the vertical upward direction. As the stone moves up, it is attracted by the earth in the downward direction. Thus, while moving up stone remains under the influence of gravity. Thus, velocity of the stone continuously decreases and becomes zero at highest point.
