When acetic acid is prepared from commercial alcohol using potassium per magnet and heat then why this process is called oxidation?

Dear student,

There is an increase in the number of oxygen in alcohol formula and removal of hydrogen from alcohol.
Both removal of hydrogen and addition of oxygen is called oxidation reaction and hence it is called oxidation reaction.
