Solution

  1. When two substances are rubbed together, few electrons are transferred from one material to another
  2. For example, an ebonite rod is rubbed with the skin of the cat, the ebonite rod pulls some electrons from the skin of the cat, as electrons are loosely packed in the skin of the cat as compared to the ebonite rod.
  3. Therefore, the ebonite rod becomes negatively charged and the skin becomes equally positively charged.
