Solution

Hydrogen spectral series:

  • The spectral lines arise due to the transition of electrons from higher energy to lower energy levels.
  • It is an emission spectrum.
  • Based on the transition of higher to lower energy state where it rests at different n=1,2,3,.., the spectral lines are assigned.
  • There are five spectral line series they are: Lyman, Balmer, Paschen, Brackett, and Pfund.

n=4ton=2 transition:

  • From the above diagram, we can able to know the transition belongs to the Balmer series.
  • Balmer series occurs in the visible region in the electromagnetic spectrum.
  • The line belongs to a bluish colour.
