Appearance of an object is based on its texture, hardness and lustre. So, when an object is checked, we touch it to see whether it is rough or smooth in texture. The object can be compressed and if it is easily compresssed then it is a soft object. If it does not compress at all, it is a hard object. An object can also be shiny, like jewellery made of gold. Or, objects may look dull.
