Solution: The Harappan civilization arose in the north-western region of the Indian subcontinent some 7000 years ago, covering the area between river Indus and the ancient Sarasvati, which is now called the Ghaggar river.
This civilization rose to its prominence by around 3000 BC and continued to flourish for the next thousand years.
It started declining by 1900 BC with the drying up of river Ghaggar.The Harappan civilization covered a vast area which included present day Pakistan, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Western Uttar Pradesh and Southern Afghanistan.
