Question

When and where does anaerobic respiration take place?

Open in App
Solution

Aerobic respiration occurs in the cell of the body when there is insufficient oxygen present for respiration. During exercise, more oxygen is required for more energy. Hence, the breathing rate increases. However, if the body does not respire enough, the cells respire anaerobically. During vigorous exercise muscle cramp occurs due to production of lactic acid by anaerobic respiration. The acid wears away muscles and causing cramps.
