When and why do bulliformcells absorb water and become turgid?

Bulliform cells absorb water and become turgid when they are exposed to moist conditions. They become turgid in order to unroll the leaf margins which curls and become flaccid during dry conditions. Also known as motor cells, these occur in epidermis of number of grasses.
