Solution

Plasmolysed cell:

  1. When a cell is placed in the hypertonic solution, water moves from the cell to its outside.
  2. This results in shrinkage of the cytoplasm.
  3. This cell is called the plasmolysed cell.
  4. The cell usually becomes flaccid.
  5. A cell that has lost water and there is a gap between the cell wall and the protoplasm is called a flaccid cell.
  6. In such conditions, turgor pressure (TP) becomes 0. Turgor pressure is called the pressure which pushes the plasma membrane against the cell wall.
