When asked " What is known as the pacemaker of heart ? " The common answer is - Sino Atrial node . Even atrio ventricular node and purkinjeefibres comes under pacemaker cells . Why not mentioning those ?

The mammalian heart is myogenic. The heart beat originates from a muscle. Sinoatrial node is a mass of neuromuscular tissue where the heart beat originates. The AV node is also a mass of neuromuscular tissue but heart beat does not originate here. AV node and Purkinjee fibers picks up the wave of contaction propagated by SA node. That's why SA node is called the pacemaker of the heart.
