When barium chloride is added to soluble magnesium sulphate, a white precipitate X is formed. What is X?
Barium sulphate
When barium chloride solution is added to soluble magnesium sulphate, a white precipitate of barium sulphate is formed.
BaCI2+MgSO4→BaSO4↓+MgCI2
The white precipitate of barium sulphate is insoluble in any mineral acid alike hydrochloric acid or nitric acid.
Precipitates of barium sulphate and barium sulphite are white in colour but barium sulphite precipitate dissolves in mineral acid while barium sulphate precipitate does not.
