Dear Student,
Vasco de Gama , a Portuguese nobleman made an expedition to India in 1497.He started his voyage from Lisbon, Portugal and opened a sea route from Europe to the East.He rounded the Cape of Good Hope at Africa's southern tip and sailed North along the eastern coast of Africa. He made several halts in the trading centres along the coast. These trading centres were occupied by the Muslim traders who did not want the Portuguese interference in their trade.Hence, Vasco de Gama had to face conflicts with them several times which had delayed his expedition to India. He finally reached Calicut, India on May 20, 1498.
