Question

When do we use .U= 1/2(C1+C2)V^2 And U=1/2 (C1C2/C1+C2) *V^2

Open in App
Solution

Basic equation U = 1/2(C)V^2

capacitors connectd in parallel C(total) = c1+c2+c3.....
so the equation becomes U= 1/2(C1+C2)V^2 (so this is potential energy of capacitors in parallel)

capacitors connected in series 1/C(total) = 1/c1 + 1/c2 ....
so the equation becomes U=1/2 (C1C2/C1+C2) *V^2 (so this is potential energy of capacitors in series )
