Question

When does a man exert more pressure on the floor: while standing or while walking? Why?

Open in App
Solution

Walking.

The reason is that, when standing you have both feet on the ground at the same time, and some pressure is exerted on the floor. But that pressure is almost doubled when you are walking. Because there is a moment when there is only foot touching the ground (while walking). It is already known that pressure is inversely proportional to area. So we go by a simple obvious theory.

One foot, same weight = more pressure , than

Two feet, same weight = less pressure
