Precipitation is a reaction in which an insoluble solid is formed in the aqueous solution due to the reaction of two or more reactants.
To make a precipitation reaction, the one substance should be made as a super saturated solution.
Also, this is a process, where the soluble substance is converted into an insoluble one.
The insoluble substance formed is called a precipitate.
Occurrence:
When a compound's concentration exceeds its solubility, it can precipitate.
This can happen as a result of temperature changes, solvent evaporation, or solvent mixing.
A solution that is significantly supersaturated precipitates more quickly.
When the cations of one reactant and the anions of the second reactant in aqueous solutions combine to form an insoluble ionic solid, this is known as a precipitation reaction.
A chemical reaction can result in the development of a precipitate.
Eg: Silver nitrate with sodium chloride gives silver chloride and sodium nitrate.
