Question

When does the growth rate of a population following the logistic model equal zero?

Open in App
Solution

The Verhulst-Pearl logistic growth is described by the equation
dN/dt = rN(1–N/K).
This describes the population growth under limited resources,
where dN/dT = the rate of change in population size
r = the intrinsic rate of natural increase
N = the population density at time t
K = carrying capacity, the amount beyond which no further growth ispossible
dN/dt = rN(1–N/K)
When N/K =1,
then 1-N/K = 0
Therefore, dN/dt= 0
