Corpus luteum is also known as the yellow secreting body which is responsible for the secretion of progesterone. Progesterone is very important for maintaining the pregnancy. If the egg is not fertilized then the Corpus luteum has degenerated and it forms Corpus albicans. It takes around 10 days for the degeneration of Corpus luteum and it is present as a mass fibre of scar tissue.
