When electrons in a conductor flow from their atoms , does the composition or properties of the element's atom change ?

Normally Current flow will not change the composition. But if we give high current, then heat will be generated and the composition may change.Also in some materials current flow can change it's properties, eg: liquid crystal display(LCD) monitors, current flow through liquid can change its optical property. So it depends upon materials and amount of current.
