Question

When equation is there 8x=24 then we have to do division by the L.H.S number

Open in App
Solution

Yes. Since the equation is 8x = 24 and we need to find x, we must remove the 8 from the 8x in the LHS.
For removing, we divide both sides by 8 ie the LHS number,
then we get,
8x / 8 = 24 / 8
=> x = 3

So, yes. We usually divide both sides by the LHS number to get the value of x.
If the equation was 15y = 60, we would divide both sides by 15 to get y = 4.
If the equation was 3x = 4, we would divide both sides by 3 to get, x = 4/3

Hope this helps :)
