When the ethyl iodide reacts with silver iodide it forms diethyl ether as iodine is being abstracted by silver and the transfer of the oxygen atom is to the ethyl group. The reaction is as follows:

2CH3CH2I + Ag2O CH3CH2OCH2CH3 + 2AgI
