Let the price of one pen be Rs.x.

Number of pens bought = 5

Cost of five pens = 5 × Rs.x = Rs.5x

Amount paid for the five pens = Rs.17

Actual amount of the five pens = Rs (17 + 3) = Rs.20

5x = 20

x =

x = 4

Thus, the price of one pen is Rs.4.
