After Harald Godwinson was crowned King Harold II, William and Harald Hardraada made plan to invade England. Fearing this Godwinson divided his army into two parts. Some were sent in north for Harald Hardra and some were sent in south for William. Harald Hardraada landed in Yorkshire and defeated the northern Saxon army at the battle of Fulford. Hardraada assembled a fleet of 300 ships containing roughly 15000 troops and landed on 18 September 1066.
