Open in App
Solution

  1. When a body does not change its position with respect to time and its surroundings, the body is said to be at rest.
  2. In the above definition, surroundings mean one or more stationary objects around the given body.
  3. These stationary objects can be called reference points.
  4. For example, if a chair is placed in the middle of a room, then the walls of the room are its surroundings.
  5. If the position of the chair (i.e., its distance from the walls) does not change with respect to the walls as well as time, then the chair is at rest.
