When is a body said to be in homeostasis?

Open in App
Solution

Homeostasis:

  1. Homeostasis means a ‘’constant state''.
  2. The organisms maintain a relatively stable internal environment inside their body, even when the environment outside their body is changing.
  3. The body systems should maintain homeostasis so that the essential life processes can be carried out in order to stay alive.
  4. For example, when we exercise our body it keeps our body temperature constant at about 98ºF even though our body’s activity is generating heat.
  5. our body is also maintaining blood sugar levels, water and electrolyte balance, and blood pressure.
  6. The body's organ systems work together to carry out these tasks.

To maintain homeostasis the body:

  1. Detects changes in the environment.
  2. Processes the sensory information,
  3. Responds to changes appropriately.
  4. Detects the change and sends a message to the control center.
  5. Receives the message and coordinates a response;
  6. Sends an output message to an effector.
  7. Responds to the output from the control center that is RECEPTOR (sense organs), EFFECTOR (muscles & glands), control center (brain & spinal cord).
