when is graphite used as a lubricant .

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Graphite used as a lubricant in bicycle chain oil because Graphite is very soft and slippery. In Graphite, the carbon atoms are situated at corners of the regular hexagonal ring. Such layers of hexagonal rings are arranged parallel to one another and the fourth valency of carbon is unsatisfied. This makes the layers slide over one another. This makes graphite is soft and slippery.
