Sewage water treatment is a type of wastewater treatment.
Sewage water treatment removes all contaminants or toxic substances from sewage to produce an effluent that is suitable for environmental discharge for reuse application.
The main objective of sewage wastewater treatment is to reduce water pollution and make water available for public usage.
Sewage water treatment involves a series of treatment processes: Physical, Biological, Chemical, and Sludge water treatment.
After performing all these processes sewage water is converted into treated water then it's safe for the outside environment.
In some places, this water after treatment is used for drinking purposes.
The sewage water contains organic material which is decomposed naturally by the microorganisms which are present in the water but they need oxygen to carry out the decomposition process. So that oxygen requirement is known as BOD or Biological Oxygen Demand.
So BOD is a demand or requirement of oxygen which is measured to know the or to measure the amount of water it is polluted.
So BOD acts as an index for treatment.
Higher the BOD more the polluting potential so sewage water is treated until the value of BOD is decreased.
