Solution

Reaction involved:
KMnO4+H2C2O4+H2SO4K2SO4+MnSO4+CO2+H2O
Assign the oxidation number to Mn
Let the oxidation number of Mn be 'x'
In KMnO4;1+x+4×(2)=0x+18=0x=+7
In MnSO4:x+(2)=0x=+2
In the reaction thus:
K+7MnO4+H2C2O4+H2SO4K2SO4++2MnSO4+CO2+H2O
When KMnO4 is reduced with oxallic acid in acidic solution, the oxidation umbee of Mn changes from + 7 to +2.
Change in oxidation state = 7-2 = 5
