Solution

The correct option is A 15 cm, 1647 cm3
Let x be the sides of the cube. The the volume will be x3
If the sides are increased by 3 then length will be x+3 and the volume will become (x+3)×(x+3)×(x+3). But the volume is increased by 2457 that is x3+2457
Therefore,
(x+3)×(x+3)×(x+3)=x3+2457
x3+3x2+6x2+18x+9x+27=x3+2457
x3 +9x2+27x+27=x3+2457
9x2+27x+27=2457
x2+3x+3=273
x2+3x270=0
x2+18x15x270=0
x(x+18)15(x+18)
(x15)(x+18)
x=15 or x=18
Side cannot be negative hence x=15 cm
With side=15 cm, then Volume=3375 cm3
If the side is decreased by 20% then the side decreased will be 20100×15=3 cm
Therefore side=153=12 cm
Volume=12×12×12=1728 cm3
Volume decreased=33751728=1647 cm3
