Question

When does offspring show a blend of the parent's traits?

Open in App
Solution

Genotype:

  1. Each offspring is a combination of both parents.
  2. An offspring receives some dominant genes from the mother and some from the father.
  3. Hence, offspring is an equal combination of the parents.
  4. The set of genes offspring receives from both parents is known as the organism's genotype.

Offspring show a blend of the parents traits:

  1. If both the parents provide either dominant or recessive genes to the offspring then that is a homozygous allele.
  2. If the father provides a dominant allele and the mother gives a recessive allele to the offspring then it will be a heterozygous allele of that particular gene.
  3. In complete dominance, the phenotype is between two homozygous phenotypes.
  4. In codominance, the phenotype is between heterozygous phenotype where the dominant allele will suppress the recessive allele.
  5. When one allele is dominant over the other offspring show blend of the parent's trait.
