Solution

Step 1:Assuming the numbers by variables aandb

Let the numbers be aand b .In the ratio form, we can express it as a:bor ab

Step 2:Applying given conditions

case 1

According to the question,

a+1b+1=12ā‡’2a+1=b+1ā‡’2a+2=b+1ā‡’2a-b=1-2ā‡’2a-b=-1.......................1

case 2

According to the question,

a-5b-5=511ā‡’11a-5=5(b-5)ā‡’11a-55=5b-25ā‡’11a-5b=55-25ā‡’11a-5b=30.................................2

step:3

To find aand busing elimination method

1Ɨ5ā‡’10a-5b=-5ā†’(3)(2)ā‡’11a-5b=30ā†’(2)(2)-(3)ā‡’a=35

To get b substitute a=35in (1)

1ā‡’2Ɨ35-b=-1ā‡’70-b=-1ā‡’-b=-1-70ā‡’-b=-71ā‡’b=71

Therefore the values of a=35andb=71

Checking,

a+1b+1=35+171+1=3672=12a-5b-5=35-571-5=3066=1022=511
