Question

When oxygen is passed through silent electric discharge, it is 10% converted to ozone.
3O2(g)2O3(g)
What volume of O3 will be formed by using 30 litre of O2 ?

Open in App
Solution

we have,
22.4 L of gas = 1 mole
30 L of gas = 3022.4 = 1.33 mole

according to equation, we have

3 mole of O2 is producing 2 moles of O3

so, 1.33 moles of O2 produce O3 = 231.33 = 0.886 mole

and only 10% is converted to O3
therefore the amount of O3 produced = 0.886 * 0.1 = 0.0886 mole
volume of O3 produced = 0.0886 * 22.4 L = 1.984 L
