Question

When pressure is applied to equilibrium system, ice(s) → H2O (l) [forward and backward reaction possible] ,Why will more water be formed?

Solution

Ice WaterThis reaction is an endothermic reaction in the forward direction. That means heat energy is absorbed. When Pressure is applied on this reaction, As P is directly proportional to temperature, on increasing the pressure, temperature is also increased. Increase of temperature means more of the ice is converted to water.
